Custom carpentry on Long Island

Stairs, rails, wainscoting, tray ceilings, window seats, and trim. The work that shows a carpenter's hand, from a family that started out building yachts.
Custom X pattern wood stair rail

Before there was a P. Cullen and Son, a young Pat Cullen was building small and large yachts. Boat work leaves no room for a sloppy joint. It is the same standard we hold on a stair rail.

Our custom carpentry covers stairs and rails, paneled walls and raised panel wainscoting, coffered and tray ceilings, stacked crown, built in cabinets, beadboard, timber trusses, window seats, porticos and entries, and all the trim that makes a house feel finished.

Some of it is a project of its own. Most of it is part of a bigger remodel, where the carpentry is what makes new work match the old.

Questions

Custom Carpentry questions

Can you match the trim in an older house?
Matching what is already there is a big part of the job, whether it is a casing profile, a baseboard, or a stair detail. We pay close attention to architectural detail so new work blends with the original.
What kind of stair work do you do?
New stairs, rails, and balusters, from painted foyer stairs to stained wood and custom patterns like the X rail on this page.
Do you build front entries and porticos?
Yes. The porticos on this site, with stone and timber columns, curved gables, and arched ceilings, are our work.
